In the Analects of Confucius – Confucius Say 1

Posted by Confucian Wisdom Fan on Mar 11, 2010 in Confucius Sayings

“Don’t worry when people fail to recognize their merits, worry when you fail to recognize theirs”

How to Apply This Confucian Quote about the Golden Rule to Your Life:

Isn’t that another example of the golden rule that we should all follow so as not to be hypocrites?

Of course. So apply this by not being a hypocrite, and simply following the golden rule just as the quote suggests.

These sayings were not written for mere hobby, but instead to drive home important points about living life right, and doing unto others as you would have others do unto you, the golden rule in a nutshell.

About Confucius 1 – Confucian Thought Today

Posted by Confucian Wisdom Fan on Mar 6, 2010 in Confucius Sayings

The fact that Confucius liked knowledge and wisdom is well known, but not so well understood…

Many other things are also not known about Confucius, such as that he liked quietness and peace as well as things such as respect and doing the right things at the right time.

Basically Confucius was a teacher of harmony and and his Confucian teachings focused on being in harmony with the laws of nature and the universe.

Confucian Wisdom Still Applies Today

Even though his knowledge is more than 2500 years old, the ancient wisdom of Confucius is still very applicable, even today.

Confucian wisdom is primarily drawn from what’s known as the Analects of Confucius, a collection of conversations and writings that were recorded over the course of several decades.

Why Are The Analects of Confucius so Popular?

The Confucian Analects are basically snippets of his recorded conversations where he had many wise and enlightening things to say to people. That is why they are so popular. The Analects contain a lot of wisdom in such compact form. When taken in their proper context, there is a lot of wisdom we can gain from the knowledge that he had.

Why Was Confucius So Fond of Knowledge?

Confucius in end effect wanted to reform people and government and establish greater unity and moral principles that reflected observing the spirit of the law (principles-based, such as with virtue and uprightness) not just the letter of the law (rules only). This is a very important difference – being ethical, not just legal, and it’s much higher calling and responsibility.

Confucius and Confucianism

I will write more on how Confucian thought and Confucius’ philosophy, known as Confucianism, is full of valuable leadership and philosophical lessons for us all today, on a personal level, in government and in modern day society.
